Physical Object:
The physical scope of the project initially includes the archiving of approximately 15,000 samples and the multi-element analysis of part of them, aiming at the preparation of the Geochemical Atlas of Greece accompanied by an interpretive report. The results will be valuable for mineral exploration and environmental studies. In the second phase, the analyses of the remaining samples will be completed, and all samples from the systematic geochemical mapping will be archived to ensure accessibility for analysis and study by both HSGME scientists and researchers from university geoscience departments.
Purpose – Expected Results:
This project is considered highly significant, as it will result in the systematic archiving of the geochemical samples stored in HSGME’s facilities, making them accessible for detailed studies. The chemical and mineralogical analyses, the processing and interpretation of the results, and the preparation of the Geochemical Atlas of Greece represent a key infrastructure project. It will provide essential information for geochemical, mineral exploration, and environmental research, and will enhance the understanding of Greece’s geochemical conditions. The data will be valuable and useful to universities, students (geologists, mining engineers, etc.), as well as to researchers and professionals in the field.
