Physical Object:
The physical scope of the project includes the contribution of HSGME to the preparation of Disaster Management Plans (DMPs) at the level of industrial zones as well as individual industrial units, in accordance with its responsibilities under Law 4602/2019, as follows:
- Creation of a database of recorded active fault structures in Greece.
- Collection and documentation of available environmental data within a pilot study area.
- Application of a methodology for calculating aquifer vulnerability within the pilot study area.
Purpose – Expected Results:
The preparation of Disaster Management Plans (DMPs) is an obligation of the Hellenic State deriving from international conventions.
The expected results of the project include:
- Development of Environmental Hazard Scenarios (Hazard), through which the collected information will be evaluated to produce environmental hazard scenarios for industrial accidents potentially triggered by active fault structures. The likelihood and extent of possible hazardous pollutant leakage will be determined, along with its potential adverse effects on the natural (geological and hydrogeological) environment.
- Identification of High-Risk Areas (Risk), where, upon completion of the environmental hazard scenarios and based on the assessment and evaluation of the results, industrial areas with high risk due to their proximity to active fault structures will be identified.
