The project will play a key role in improving the effective management of water abstraction and the protection of groundwater resources from overexploitation. It aims to systematically record all boreholes across the country’s Groundwater Systems, covering every type of use. The project will also document the quantities of water extracted, categorized by use (domestic supply, irrigation, industrial, etc.) and by groundwater system. In addition, it will support the effective implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC and contribute to the formulation, application, and monitoring of policies related to the sustainable management of water resources, such as water conservation measures and action programs.
