Physical Object:
The objective of the project is to classify the Municipal Units (MUs) of the country into Landslide Hazard categories based on the density of landslides within each MU. This comparative classification will enable the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (GSCP), in collaboration with HSGME, to develop Landslide Management Plans.
Purpose – Expected Results:
The preparation of Disaster Management Plans is an obligation of the Hellenic State arising from international agreements. The plan for landslides is still pending, and its preparation will become feasible upon completion of this project. This will result in more effective management of the impacts of landslides—phenomena that have been increasing in recent years. Furthermore, the project’s results will allow for the prioritization of Municipal Units according to landslide hazard levels, and in a second phase, a more detailed assessment of hazard and risk within high-risk MUs. In this way, local authorities will be informed about which areas within their jurisdictions have a higher likelihood of landslide occurrence and which critical infrastructures may be affected.
