As part of the scientific activities of the library of the Hellenic Authority for Geological and Mineral Research (EAGME), and with the main objective of providing support to its users, the library proudly showcases an important collection of reference material. This collection includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, biographies, journals, atlases, manuals, legal texts, indexes, as well as audiovisual material.
Many of these documents are intellectual works produced by EAGME, as the successor of IGME, and have been used by thousands of users over the years, serving as valuable resources for geological research—particularly for young geoscientists.
Of particular historical and pioneering significance for its time is the three-volume bibliography by author D. Charalambous, titled “Geological and Natural Science Bibliography of Greece”, published by IGME in 1961 (Vol. A), 1975 (Vol. B), and 1980 (Vol. C).
Also in high demand is the “Dictionary of Geological Terms in Four Languages” by G.E. Christodoulou, published by IGME.
This four-language dictionary includes geological terms in Greek, English, German, and French. It covers all major branches of the geosciences, such as Stratigraphy, Structural Geology, General Geology, Geomorphology, Petrography, Micropaleontology, Volcanology, and Geophysics. It is considered the first comprehensive dictionary of geological terminology in Greece, featuring 40,200 terms, of which 32,200 are in foreign languages.
The reference material of the EAGME library is searchable and accessible through its online catalog: https://libraryigme.openabekt.gr/
