With the aim of ensuring the proper management of spring waters in the Municipality of Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi, the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.) signed a Programmatic Agreement and delivered the relevant Technical Report to the local DEYA (Municipal Water and Sewerage Company).
Specifically, the Department of Hydrogeology and Hydrology (YDROPGE) of H.S.G.M.E. is implementing the program “Qualitative and quantitative monitoring of the Loutraki thermal aquifer”, which aims at the sustainable management of the water resources of the springs in the wider area of Loutraki – Agioi Theodoroi.
Geological environment of the wider Loutraki – Agioi Theodoroi area
For the project, a comprehensive recording and presentation of the springs located within the boundaries of the Municipality of Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi was carried out. Fieldwork was conducted at all 12 springs, and the prevailing hydrological and hydrogeological conditions in their immediate surroundings were examined. Additionally, aspects related to their structure and operation were clarified, and their quantitative and qualitative characteristics were assessed.
The proposals of H.S.G.M.E. concern the reconstruction of facilities (water intakes, tanks, networks) aimed at the proper management of the spring waters through improved planning and scheduling of their use. The project is supervised by Dr. Konstantinos Papadopoulos, Hydrogeologist of the Department of Hydrogeology and Hydrology (YDROPGE) of H.S.G.M.E.
It should be noted that the Programmatic Agreement with the DEYA Loutraki continues the long-standing cooperation developed between H.S.G.M.E. and Municipal Water and Sewerage Enterprises throughout Greece. H.S.G.M.E. produces high-level research work, offering direct and practical solutions to groundwater issues, thus contributing effectively to addressing vital problems faced by local authorities and society as a whole.
