The Response Team of the H.S.G.M.E. once again stood by the Local Authorities to address landslide phenomena.
Following a request from the Municipality of Central Tzoumerka and the Region of Epirus to the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the Memorandum of Cooperation with the HSGME was activated.
Specifically, a team from the Regional Unit of Epirus, consisting of Dr. Evangelos Nikolaou (Head of the RUE) and Panagiotis Paschos, conducted an on-site inspection on February 24, 2021, at a landslide that occurred on the local road connecting the settlement of Korakades with the main road Vourgareli–Athamanio.
The geologists were accompanied by the Mayor of Central Tzoumerka, Mr. Christos Chasiakos, with whom the HSGME (formerly IGME) has developed a long-standing and excellent cooperation, as well as Deputy Mayors Apostolos Tyrologos and Georgios Stasinos.
During a meeting that followed between the HSGME geologists and the municipal authorities, the risk level of the phenomenon was assessed. In addition, the HSGME team provided guidance on the immediate and medium-term interventions that should be implemented either by the municipality or by the Region.
