By decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. K. Skrekas, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, Geologist – Geotechnical Engineer M.Sc., has been appointed as the new General Director of the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.).
Since October 2019, and up to the present, he has held the position of Deputy General Director of Projects at EAGME, overseeing and coordinating all of the Authority’s research projects, with a total budget of €24.8 million.
Mr. Dionysios Goutis is a graduate of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in “Geotechnical Engineering” from the School of Civil Engineering, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
He has extensive professional experience in both the UK and Greece as a consultant for public and private technical works, specializing in geotechnical and geological studies, as well as in the broader field of geotechnical design and supervision of geotechnical projects.
He has also participated as a member of scientific teams in applied research programs on natural disasters, focusing on the identification and analysis of risks related to ground failures, landslides, rockfalls, and subsidence, as well as their impact on structural engineering elements and the geophysical environment.
He has been an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GEOTEE) since 2014, and has represented the chamber in numerous ministerial working groups and legislative committees. He has also been appointed as the chamber’s representative on the Advisory Committee on Studies (G.E.M.) of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
