The conference titled “Strategy for the Development and Utilization of Greek Mineral Raw Materials” was held with great success on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the auditorium of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN). The event was co-organized by the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (EAGME) and the Association of Greek Geologists (SEG), under the auspices of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GEOTEE).
The event was opened by the General Director of EAGME, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, who emphasized the decisive contribution of EAGME to the national effort for the development and utilization of the country’s Strategic and Critical Raw Materials. He then invited to the podium the political leadership of the Ministry — Deputy Minister Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou and Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Raw Materials Mr. Aristotelis Aivaliotis — both of whom honored the event with their presence.
During their speeches, both Ms. Sdoukou and Mr. Aivaliotis highlighted that investing in Greece’s mineral wealth and critical raw materials is a key priority for the Ministry’s political leadership. They also expressed their commitment to strengthening EAGME’s institutional role and operational capacity.
Greetings were also addressed by Mr. Konstantinos Saltas (President of EAGME), Mr. Evangelos Spyridonos (President of SEG), Mr. Efthymios Spyridis (Vice President of GEOTEE), and Ms. Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou (Member of the European Parliament).
The event continued with keynote presentations and a roundtable discussion featuring scientists, researchers, academics, and representatives from the mining industry — including P. Tseferis, I. Zafeiratos & M. Lambou (YPEN), N. Arvanitidis (SEG), S. Kilias (NKUA), N. Koukousas (CERTH), K. Yazitzoglou & Ch. Kavalopoulos (SME), E. Vagli (Hellas Gold), S. Zaimis (IMERYS), and G. Bourmas (Hellenic Magnesite).
A detailed presentation on EAGME’s research activities in the field of Mineral Raw Materials across Greece was delivered by Dr. Konstantinos Laskaridis, Director of Mineral Resources and Mining at EAGME.
