On Friday, November 10, 2023, the Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Raw Materials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN), Mr. Aristotelis Aivaliotis, was welcomed at the premises of the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (EAGME) in the Olympic Village by the Director General, Mr. Dionysios Goutis.
Mr. Aivaliotis was given a guided tour by Mr. Konstantinos Saltas (Chairman of the Board), Mr. Dionysios Goutis (General Director), and Board Members Mr. Haris Kavalopoulos, Mr. Evangelos Spyridonos, and Mr. Panagiotis Sakkas, as well as by the Authority’s staff, who presented the research laboratories and the newly established National Geological Museum.
A working meeting followed in the EAGME Boardroom, where discussions focused on the Authority’s current activities, proposals for research projects under the new ESPA 2021–2027 programming period, EAGME’s contribution to the National Strategy for the Development and Utilization of Greek Mineral and Geothermal Resources, as well as ways to strengthen the Authority in terms of resources and personnel.
Following his visit, Mr. Aivaliotis stated: “I was delighted to visit EAGME. I was presented with the Authority’s ongoing activities and initiatives for the utilization of Greece’s mineral wealth, both in research and investment terms. EAGME will continue to be a key partner of the Ministry of Environment and Energy in accelerating the exploitation of the country’s mineral resources, with the common goal of supporting the national economy and contributing to Europe’s collective effort to develop actions for the exploitation of critical raw materials — ensuring that Europe remains strong in the global supply chain.
We will do everything possible to strengthen EAGME’s mission. As for the new major project — the National Geological Museum — I must say it is truly remarkable. If I were a student, I would be thrilled! I hope that schools across the country will visit the museum and learn more about Greece’s geological history and mineral wealth.”
On his part, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, Director General of EAGME, stated: “We were pleased to welcome Secretary General Mr. Aivaliotis to EAGME. Our collaboration with the Minister, Deputy Ministers, General Secretaries, and officials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy is constant and productive. We had the opportunity to present to Mr. Aivaliotis our facilities, laboratories, and the state-of-the-art National Geological Museum, as well as a series of innovative new research projects and initiatives aimed at advancing EAGME’s scientific work and promoting the dissemination of geoscientific knowledge to society.”
