As part of the educational programs of the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (EAGME), developed through the new National Geological Museum, a field tour was organized on Friday, May 6, 2022, by the museum’s curator, Mr. Michalis Fitros, for students of the 57th Athens Junior High School. The visit included significant geosites of Geology and historical interest within the Lavreotiki Geopark, which is a candidate for inclusion in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
The students had the opportunity to learn about the impressive geological phenomenon of sinkholes and the rich mineral wealth of the Lavreotiki region. Supporting this initiative was Dr. Kiki Makri, geologist and teacher at the 57th Athens Junior High School.
EAGME, as a key partner and supporter of the Lavreotiki Geopark, continues to promote and support actions and educational programs that aim to preserve, promote, and highlight Greece’s Geological and Cultural Heritage, as well as to facilitate the inclusion of new areas in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
