The Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Raw Materials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou, was welcomed today by the General Director of the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (EAGME), Mr. Dionysios Goutis.
Ms. Sdoukou was given a tour of the under-construction National Geological Museum by Mr. K. Saltas (Chairman of the Board), Mr. D. Goutis (General Director), and Mr. K. Zombos (Deputy General Director of Financial and Administrative Affairs), along with scientists from the Authority. She experienced a virtual geological tour of Meteora using augmented reality glasses and had the opportunity to explore the functions of EAGME’s new Electron Microscope.
A working meeting followed, during which they discussed, among other topics, the geothermal interest areas that meet the requirements to enter a competitive process under the recent ministerial decision. Ms. Sdoukou was also presented with EAGME’s Investment Guide for Mineral Raw Materials. The meeting also included an extensive discussion on the research and utilization of Public Mining Areas, as well as EAGME’s projects under the new ESPA framework.
Following the meeting, the Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Raw Materials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ms. Alexandra Sdoukou, stated: “I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Goutis, the management, and the staff of EAGME for the warm welcome. I was impressed by their passion and expertise. I believe that the National Geological Museum under construction will become a national asset for the Earth Sciences and beyond, as it is being designed with cutting-edge technology and fully aligned with the digital requirements of our era. I witnessed firsthand the diverse scientific work carried out by EAGME’s scientists and the important contribution of the Authority to society. We also had the opportunity to discuss the development of geothermal energy. Our goal is to harness geothermal energy in transforming our energy mix, and EAGME’s role in this effort is crucial.”
On his part, the General Director of the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, noted: “We were pleased to welcome Ms. Sdoukou to EAGME today. Our collaboration with the Minister, Deputy Ministers, Secretaries General, and senior officials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy is ongoing and close. In this context, we presented to Ms. Sdoukou the progress of the National Geological Museum as well as several of our innovative initiatives aimed at promoting EAGME’s research and scientific work and highlighting the dissemination of scientific knowledge to society. We also discussed the utilization of geothermal interest areas and reviewed in detail EAGME’s current research projects.”
