In an impressive and innovative pavilion that attracted thousands of visitors, the presence of the HSGME at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) was a significant opportunity to showcase the Authority’s work to the general public, as well as the National Geological Museum, and to discuss the present and future of Geology and mineral research in Greece.
This year, our exhibition space featured marble as its centerpiece, within a specially designed quarry simulation — a space where geology meets technology and the economy. Marble is a natural resource that contributes to the country’s development while requiring respect and environmental protection. The global value of Greek marble was particularly highlighted — not only as a construction material but also as a symbol of Greek culture.
At the HSGME pavilion, the General Director of HSGME, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, and the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Konstantinos Saltas, welcomed the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou; the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Nikos Tsafos; the Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ms. Despina Paliarouta; the Secretary General for Natural Environment and Water, Mr. Petros Varelidis; the Secretary General for Waste Management Coordination, Mr. Manolis Grafakos; the Secretary General for Spatial Planning and Urban Environment, Mr. Efthymios Bakogiannis; the Secretary General of Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Giorgos Didaskalos; the CEO of the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Management Company (HHRM), Mr. Aristotelis Stefatos; the Deputy Governor of EFKA and Geologist, Mr. Ioannis Delakouridis; among others.
Discussions with visitors, representatives of local authorities, public and private bodies, and businesses demonstrated the strong public interest in HSGME’s work. This encourages us to continue with even more outreach and awareness activities regarding the country’s mineral wealth and the environment.
