The 8th Global Stone Congress (GSC) will be held in Drama from June 16 to 20, 2025 — the leading international event dedicated to natural stones, research, innovation, and their sustainable utilization.
This major congress, which will serve as the global meeting point for the geoscientific and industrial community of natural stones, is being organized for the first time in Greece by the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (HSGME) and the Marble Businesses Association of Macedonia–Thrace (MBAMT), with the participation of distinguished scientists, industry professionals, academics, researchers, and policymakers from around the world.
The Global Stone Congress is the most important international institution in the field of natural stones. This year’s congress will include:
- Presentations of research papers and technological advancements
- Discussions on sustainability, extraction, processing, and trade of stone materials
- Special panels on cultural heritage and the use of stone in architecture
- Visits to quarries and marble processing facilities in the region
- Parallel cultural events and exhibitions
It is worth noting that the choice of Drama is not accidental: the wider area (Drama, Kavala, Thassos) is one of the most significant geological and production centers in the world for white marble. It hosts about 70% of the marble quarries nationwide, which account for over 90% of Greece’s primary marble production value.
