The Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (HSGME) took an active part in the largest annual exhibition dedicated to the Environment, the Attica Green Expo, highlighting the vital role of geosciences in today’s era of climate change.
At the main HSGME exhibition booth, the Authority’s work was showcased, along with the new National Geological Museum. The General Director of HSGME, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, spoke on a panel about sustainable development, emphasizing the rational utilization of the country’s mineral wealth.
A key focus of HSGME’s participation was the environmental education of the younger generation.
The Recycling Mine proved to be a unique point of interest for visitors, schools, and groups of children, featuring interactive games that highlighted the importance of geosciences in protecting the environment for young audiences.
HSGME continues its work through research and initiatives that contribute to public awareness and sustainable development.
Among those who visited the HSGME booth were: Niki Kerameos, Minister of Labour and Social Security; Petros Varelidis, Secretary General for the Natural Environment and Water at the Ministry of Environment and Energy; Dr. Efthymios Lekkas, Professor of Dynamic Tectonics & Applied Geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens; and Giorgos Maniatis, Member of the European Parliament.
