International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. October 13 has been designated by the United Nations as the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The purpose of this day is to raise global awareness about reducing the risks posed by natural disasters and to promote cooperation among nations and states in managing related challenges and their impacts.
The Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.) plays a vital role in addressing geological hazards related to landslides and soil erosion caused by earthquakes and floods, volcanic activity, and the impact of radioactive elements, ores, and minerals on the natural environment.
The H.S.G.M.E. has also signed a memorandum of cooperation with the General Secretariat for Civil Protection to ensure immediate response for the assessment and management of natural disasters.
