EAGME has successfully completed a particularly important project funded by the National Segment of the Public Investment Programme (PIP). Specifically, the “Guide on Mineral Raw Materials (MRM) of Greece” has been finalized. The Guide was developed in English to facilitate foreign stakeholders and investors.
The objective of the Guide on Mineral Raw Materials (MRM) of Greece is to contribute substantially to the codification and updating of available information, providing cartographic data and references in a user-friendly environment. Its ultimate goal is to attract and enhance investment interest in the exploration and utilization of mineral raw materials in the country.
The Guide includes the current legal framework governing the exploration and exploitation of mineral raw materials and, more generally, mining activities in Greece. It also outlines the procedures for obtaining exploration and exploitation rights for ores and quarry minerals, the competent licensing authorities, and offers a concise yet comprehensive overview of the country’s mining industry.
Through a specially developed interactive WebGIS application, designed for the purposes of the project and the Guide, users can access selected areas of interest — as prioritized and deemed mature for investment by the competent Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (ΥΠΕΝ) responsible for assessing the economic and reserve potential of public mines, state-owned mining areas, and previously explored public quarry sites for industrial minerals.
The areas of interest included in the Guide concern 23 Public Mining Areas (PMA) and 9 Public Industrial Mineral Sites (PIMS). Access to the Guide’s contents is available through the website https://mrmguide.eagme.gr/, which is hosted on an EAGME server.
It is noted that the website also serves as the entry portal to the interactive WebGIS application.
