Despite the particularly challenging circumstances, the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.) continues its operations seamlessly, taking all necessary safety and protection measures.
More specifically, an H.S.G.M.E. team composed of Dr. Kostas Laskaridis, Director of Mineral Resources and Mining (DOMME), and Ivi Konti from the Department of Mining Consultations and Inspections, conducted a field inspection in the Kozani area last week. The purpose of the visit was to provide an expert opinion for the reconstitution of a dossier regarding the approval of a Financial and Technical Feasibility Study for the exploitation of huntite–hydromagnesite, under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN).

At the same time, Dr. Panagiotis Sampatakakis, Director of Water Resources and Geothermal Energy (DYPEGE) at H.S.G.M.E., carried out a field inspection on the island of Kos to conduct a hydrogeological survey. The objective was to assess the potential for supplying water to a new reception facility via water boreholes, as part of the collaboration between H.S.G.M.E. and the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.
In addition, the Response Team was mobilized to investigate landslide phenomena resulting from recent severe weather events. These operations were carried out smoothly across different regions of the country, in close cooperation with the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (GSCP) and local authorities.

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the H.S.G.M.E. has successfully maintained a high level of operational capacity, while fully implementing all necessary safety and protection protocols.

The primary applications of the produced materials include use as flame retardants, fillers in plastic compounds for the manufacture of insulation for specialized electrical cables and components, as well as in the paint industry and other fields.
