The 48th Meeting of National Representatives of the EuroGeoSurveys (EGS) concluded today, February 10, 2022, preparing the agenda for the upcoming 52nd Meeting of the Directors-General of the European Geological Surveys, which will be held online on March 21, 2022.
Greece and the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.) were represented by Dr. Kostas Lazaridis, Director of Mineral Resources and Mining (DOPME) at EAGME and National Representative of Greece at EuroGeoSurveys since 2012.
During the 48th Meeting of National Representatives of EuroGeoSurveys:
– The successful completion of the GeoERA Programme (https://geoera.eu/)—in which both EAGME and IGME participated—was discussed and presented.
– The transition from GeoERA to the newly planned CSA/GSE Programme was discussed, with GeoERA viewed as a “stepping stone” toward developing a Geological Service for Europe—an idea supported by all participating members.
– Internal EuroGeoSurveys matters were analyzed, including budget, membership, staffing, completed and ongoing projects, new research proposals, events, communication activities, collaborations, and the organizational aspects of individual Working Groups.
– The possible change in the management structure of the European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI) platform (https://www.europe-geology.eu/) was also discussed.
Finally, future EuroGeoSurveys meetings were planned, with Greece honored to host the next Meeting of National Representatives in Athens on September 13–15, 2022, marking the 50th anniversary of the Organization of European Geological Surveys (EuroGeoSurveys).
