The “LITHOS” Laboratory has been operating since 1999, providing services in the field of ornamental stones, while also participating in various research projects, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, and other events.
Since 2002, it has been accredited by ESYD under EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, and since 2020 under its latest edition (2017).
It is equipped with modern, calibrated instruments for determining the qualitative characteristics and physico-mechanical properties of ornamental stones, in accordance with current European Standards (EN). The Laboratory’s accreditation scope fully covers EN standard tests, in full alignment with current EU practices. Certain EN standards define “Specifications” for finished ornamental stone products intended for specific applications, aiming at granting CE marking to the interested party (producer, trader, importer, etc.). CE marking has been mandatory in Greece since 2008.
The laboratory’s constant objective is to provide high-quality services, with the aim of increasing competitiveness and strengthening the position of “Greek Ornamental Stone”.
The required tests and supporting work performed in the laboratory to obtain CE marking for natural stone products, depending on their application, include:

Determination of uniaxial compressive strength
Determination of breaking load at dowel hole
Determination of abrasion resistance
Determination of slip resistance - Environmental stress tests
Determination of resistance to thermal shock aging
Determination of frost resistance - Petrographic examination
